About The Author
Charles Bronson has spent over 30 years in various prisons around the UK, much of the time in solitary confinement due to his violent attacks on prison guards and other inmates. He is a fitness fanatic who has held a number of fitness and strength records.
Stephen Richards is the author of many self help books.
About The Book
Solitary fitness goes into detail about how to get fit, burn fat and build strength without the need for going to a gym or buying extra equipment.
Bronson’s blunt motivational style may not be to everyone’s taste and I guess if you’re easily offended then might be best to skip this book. The comments made about fat people in particular may come across as a bit harsh. But if you can get over the bragging and insults then you will find the book very useful.
Being incarcerated in isolation a lot of the time meant Charles himself had access to none of the equipment that you’d find in a fully decked out gym, or even a basic home one.
The book has a 30 day program and demonstrates bodyweight and isometric exercises for every part of the body with no need to buy anything else. Workouts usually take around 30-40 minutes but if you are limited for time then you can always pick and choose which exercises you do – after all doing something is better than nothing.
There are illustrations by the author and other photos to explain the exercises. But some are unclear as they are in black and white, so it may be confusing if you’re a complete beginner. However, there is a good understanding about the subject and it’s clear that the author is passionate about fitness and weight loss.
Overall the book gives clear details of a basic but challenging workout program. Squats, burpees, star jumps, press ups and sit ups may not be very exciting but they are very effective and this is the reason they form the basis of many bodyweight routines.
This book is ideal for anyone who has limited space or a low budget for equipment. It shows that you really don’t need to be forking out a lot on weights and other equipment as your own bodyweight really is quite an effective tool in achieving great fitness.
If you prefer a more visual guide then here are some alternatives to buying a book to help keep you motivated during your workouts.
